March is Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month

Each March, the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) calls awareness to inheritable blood and bleeding disorders. Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month (BDAM) encourages patients and families with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and rare factor disorders to share their lives, stories, struggles, and successes.

Observed each March since 2016, BDAM focuses attention on policymakers, public authorities, industry representatives, scientists, and health professionals. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, there are about 3 million people nationwide who are affected by bleeding disorders.

These conditions are often misunderstood and misdiagnosed. This causes problems later. Understanding that bleeding disorders are serious conditions that need early diagnosis is extremely important. With research and advancements, a cure can be found someday for many of these conditions.

During March, we encourage families and friends to donate a pint of blood to save a life. And show your support on social media. If you share your personal story, others will learn and show their support too!
